Statement from Chairman Gerry Pallotta

Dear Friends:

I wish to take a moment to thank the Committee for all the hard work put into yesterday’s election. While Tuesday night had some disappointments, it was a resounding victory for the Islip Town Democratic Committee, and it was your valuable time, energy and donations that made it all happen.

In 2014, we faced a significant challenge, as the Islip GOP machine unleashed every resource it had at Phil Ramos in an audacious effort to unseat our Assemblyman. They turned loose their army of foot soldiers. They opened up their deep coffers. And worst of all, they tried to divide and confuse our community by employing a former Democrat as their pawn. But even though we were outnumbered, out spent, and betrayed, we were triumphant – Assemblyman Ramos was re-elected with one of the widest margins in any assembly race in Suffolk County. The voters in Islip recognized and rewarded Phil’s tireless work as a staunch public servant and advocate to expose those responsible for the toxic dumping at Roberto Clemente Park, and hold them accountable to the community.

Next year, the challenges we face are even greater. Legislators Monica Martinez and Bill Lindsay will be counting on us to usher them to victory. Equally important is winning a governing majority on Islip Town Board. Islip will elect a new Supervisor, two Town Board Members, a Receiver of Taxes and Town Clerk. And, with a Special Grand Jury investigating the sitting GOP/Conservative Town Government, we may find ourselves in a special election for a Town Board seat prior to the next general election in November 2015. We need to position our Committee to meet these challenges as we did in Assemblyman Ramos’ re-election campaign.

Your Executive Board is reaching out to you now because, without your on-going support of our Committee and candidates, the Islip GOP will continue their stranglehold on Town government, which has hurt, ignored and marginalize our communities. With your support, we can achieve our mission of voting in true representation that will uphold our belief in a better government for all of Islip.

Now is the time to act; and we need to stand together. This Thursday, November 13, the Islip Democratic Committee will be hosting its Veteran's Day fundraiser at the Victorian Room in Bay Shore at 6:00 pm, where we will also be honoring Veterans. I ask that you join me, in kicking off our 2015 road to victory.
